There’s nothing quite like zipping down the mountain on the last run of the day—legs burning, cold air crisp against your face—and rolling straight into the magic of après-ski. Whether it be a buzzing outdoor DJ, hand-crafted cocktails, or a cozy nook with a warm drink. That moment of unwinding with good company is the very essence of après-ski.
After a day on the dramatic slopes of Lone Mountain, the post-skiing bliss feels especially well earned. With its stunning backdrop, lively base area, and an increasing lineup of bars and lounges, Big Sky’s après-ski scene is on the rise. From slope-side energy to elevated hideaways, these are the can’t-miss après-ski spots in Big Sky, Montana. Planning a trip to Big Sky? Umbrella Bar & the Mountain Village Plaza
Live DJ Friday – Sunday
Steps away from the chairlifts, at the base of Big Sky Resort, you’ll find the Mountain Village Plaza with tables and heaters surrounded a number of bars. A live DJ spins every Friday through Sunday turning the plaza into the most buzzing après-ski hubs on the mountain. There are several locales to grab a drink from in this area, but the standout is the Umbrella Bar, housed in an enclosed glass gazebo with 360-degree views of the mountains. Get the party started with a Shot Ski, or warm up with my personal favorite—the Howl at the Moon Cider.
Scissorbills Saloon
Slopeside Dive Bar (Mountain Village)
A local favorite with regular live music, the appropriately grungy saloon is full of character. Here you’ll find all your favorite bar foods with a variety of local beers on tap and plenty of spiked hot drinks. Scissorbills is located slope-side in the Mountain Village, making it easy to access at the end of a day or even as a mid-day break.
The Landing One&Only Moonlight Basin
High End Alpine Views & Drinks
Floor-to-ceiling windows in an elevated space give way to some of the best views of Lone Mountain. The Landing is the best spot on the mountain to catch the sunset over a glass of wine or cocktail while enjoying delicious eats—the bar & restaurant serves farm-to-table American alpine cuisine. Step out onto the deck to enjoy the crip mountain air and views by a cozy fire for a relaxing and memorable après-ski experience.
Alpenglow Montage Big Sky
Expertly Crafted Cocktails
Located inside the luxurious Montage Big Sky, Alpenglow is an elegant après-ski destination. Sweeping views through large window and soft lighting set the inviting atmosphere and live music often drifts through the space. The cocktails are carefully crafted for perfection, and the food is equally as impressive. The perfect stylish spot for delicious après-ski fare.
Beehive Basin Brewery
Local Craft Brews (Town Center)
If you consider yourself a beer aficionado, Beehive Basin Brewery is the place for you. Enjoy hand-crafted brews in the tasting room as you take in the mountain views or watch the brewmaster hone his craft. The establishment runs a custom brewing system and serves several staple beers, including ales, porters, and IPAs, as well as several rotating beers—recipes designed by brewmaster Andy Liedberg. There is no food service here, but you’re welcome to order in from the neighboring restaurants in the Town Center.
The Rocks Tasting Room
Montana-Made Spirits
For a true taste of Montana, head to The Rocks Tasting Room in Big Sky’ Town Center. The restaurant and liquor store focuses on featuring Montana-made spirits and beers. Sip your way through curated tastings from local distilleries. The menu is just as delicious with highlights including the pho and flatbreads. The best part? Purchase a bottle of your new-favorite Montana from the unique establishment’s liquor store.
Tips Up
Games & Late-Night Music (Town Center)
After the sun goes down, keep the party going at Tips Ups. The casual bar is one of the few establishments that features live music and DJs well into the evening. Before the music starts, enjoy the endless entertainment—arcade games, pool, and shuffle board to name a few—while you grab a bite to eat. Located in the Town Center, the entrance is marked by a hanging red gondola.
Carabiner Lounge
Wine & Views (Summit Hotel, Mountain Village)
With handcrafted cocktails and one of the most extensive wine lists in the area, Carabiner Lounge earns a place on the list of best après-ski in Big Sky. Relax at the base of the slopes and enjoy the views of Lone Peak either inside or on the outdoor patio. Come for the drinks, stay for the views, global-inspired cuisine, and occasional live music.
