On our first trip to Ischia, we spent three idyllic days at the Excelsior Belvedere Hotel & Spa. Tucked away in the heart of one of Italy’s most stunning islands, the villa-turned-luxury hotel is a serene retreat amidst one of Ischia’s liveliest towns. The boutique property features a thermal spa—thanks to the volcanic island’s hot springs and mineral rich waters—along with a private beach and lush gardens.
Our days were spent wandering through the unspoiled towns of Ischia and splashing in the glittering waters of the Mediterranean before returning to relax at the tranquil property. Each evening, prior to venturing out to dinner, we convened at the hotel bar where the tuxedoed bartender served his famous Negronis accompanied by jazzy melodies. After a couple libations, we ventured out for dinner. The Excelsior Belvedere Hotel & Spa hotel proved to be to the perfect base for relaxing and exploring Ischia.
Ideal Location
The hotel is located between Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte—two smaller areas that make up one of the busiest towns on the island. Ischia Porto is home to the island’s main port with ferry connections to mainland Italy and other nearby islands. Ischia Ponte is a charming historic area with numerous restaurants, beach clubs, and the iconic Aragonese Castle. With walkable sites, convenient transportation and peaceful grounds, the hotel’s location is ideal for travelers looking to both relax and explore the island.
The Property: Relaxing Amenities
In between exploring the island, we returned to the property to enjoy the alluring charm of the hotel grounds. We soaked in the pools—both the spa pool and the sprawling outdoor pool surrounded by the gardens. Just beyond the pool, a winding path through gardens leads the way to the intimate beach. Here you can feel the invigorating sea breeze while enjoying a cocktail and amuse bouche—all with a view of the Aragonese Castle.
Memorable Experiences
The friendly concierge arranged an unforgettable dinner at Giardino Eden and a private boat tour around the island. We spent the day cruising around the island, stopping along the way to swim in secluded coves and hidden hot springs while admiring the natural beauty of Ischia. The boat tour turned out to be a highlight of our time on Ischia.
