Belmond Charleston Place

I booked a last-minute night stay in Charleston during the Coronavirus Pandemic at the Belmond Charleston Place. As my first hotel stay since March, I was nervous and wanted to choose a hotel I could trust. The hotel is one of just three of Belmond’s word-class properties in the United States so it was an easy decision for me. Belmond Charleston Place perfectly exudes upscale Southern Charm, is impeccably decorated with a stunning rooftop pool, and is one of the best located luxury hotels in Charleston’s historic downtown.

Belmond, formerly known as Orient-Express Hotels, operates luxury hotels, trains, river cruises and safaris around the world. With less than 50 properties worldwide, Belmond offers one-of-a-kind luxury hotels coupled with exceptional experiences. Some of the brand’s iconic properties include their hotels in Venice and Portofino as well as the infamous Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, a luxury train that connects London and Venice.

Here are a few of my favorite things about Belmond Charleston Place…

The rooftop pool–the hotel’s crown jewel.

Luxurious Southern Charm Vibes

Belmond Charleston Place expertly mixes luxury with Southern charm. The hotel, a red brick building bordered by trees, perfectly blends in with the area’s Lowcountry architecture and historic homes. Bronze horses and a gleaming water fountain mark the entry. Once inside, an open arm staircase and twelve-foot crystal chandelier make for an impressive entrance into the spacious Georgian-style lobby. The rooms are appropriately traditional with plenty of luxurious modern amenities. The hotel has a plethora of dining options. including the award-winning Charleston Grill, Palmetto Café, Thoroughbred Club, Clocktower Terrace, Meeting at Market and delicious 24-hour room service. PSA: Enjoy the garden-style Palmetto Café for breakfast and sip your morning coffee surrounded by lush plants.

Pool, Clocktower Terrace, and The Spa

Belmond Charleston Places’s crown jewel is its rooftop saltwater infinity pool. Featuring a retractable glass roof, the stunning space has plenty of lush greenery, a jacuzzi, and loungers to relax on. The retractable roof allows for year-round use of the pool which means there’s no bad time to visit the property!

Also situated on the fourth-floor rooftop space is the Clocktower Terrace rooftop bar and the hotel spa. The stylish terrace connects to the pool area, making it easy to grab a cocktail in between dips or while you watch the sunset over Charleston. Make sure to give the Charleston Place Punch a try. If you need a little pampering, The Spa menu includes a variety of therapeutic massages, hair and makeup services, and their signature hydrating intraceuticals treatment!

Location

Neatly tucked away just off King Street and only a few blocks from Broad Street, Belmond Charleston Place is ideally located for exploring Charleston on foot. Within 15 minutes, you can easily walk to pretty much all of downtown Charleston’s main attractions, best restaurants, and bars. King Street’s infamous shopping and dining are steps away. The Charleston City Market is steps away. Rainbow Row, the Pineapple Fountain, and the museums are less than a 15-minute walk. And, best of all, the hotel is centrally located among many of the area’s top-rated restaurants and rooftop bars!
